Having hair loss is normal. In fact, people lose an average of 100 strands per day. If you are losing hair around that quantity, you do not need to undergo hair transplant surgery. But what is not normal is excessive hair loss. Any one should not take it for granted if he/ she thinks that she is losing too much hair. Know what should be done but don’t assume right away that you need a hair transplant surgery.

Hair transplant surgery is a medical procedure wherein hair from the donor area is relocated to the balding areas of the hair loss patient. The great thing about hair transplant surgery is that the relocated hair from the bald resistant donor will continue to grow for life. However, not everyone can be a good candidate for hair transplant surgery. The usual hair loss patient who can undergo the surgery has sufficient donor hair from the scalp’s edge to transplant to the balding area. Nowadays, more people can be candidates of hair transplant surgery than it used to be. This has been made possible because of the techniques that have been developed through the years.

One instance of progress for hair transplant surgery is that the process can actually give a natural hair appearance that is most suitable to the patient. Whether the hair should be thick or thin, technology now can make it as natural as possible for the patient. Hair transplant surgery combines surgical skills with artistic touch to have the best results for hair restoration. There are various techniques and doctors in this field constantly continue to discover ways on how to actually “perfect” the craft.

Hair transplant surgery has its own side effects that imply a case-to-case basis. Discomfort, mild pain, and swelling are usual with patients who just had it. Some serious problems that are rare include scarring, infection, and bleeding. Hair transplant surgery consists of a few sessions to achieve the most desirable outcome. But because of technology and dedicated doctors who keep on studying it, it has led to a more comfortable procedure that leads to best results of hair restoration for both the patients and surgeons. Whether or not it may be comfortable for you, you should make sure it is the best solution for your hair loss before you undergo a hair transplant surgery.

In recent years, there has been a growing popularity in the hair transplant. This is a procedure performed by highly trained doctors, and can dramatically change the appearance of thinning or balding areas on the scalp. The procedure can have great success and the patient’s hair can look as natural as it would if it were never performed. Most cannot even tell that the person had the transplant surgery done.

There are steps that need to be taken before the patient can go through hair transplant surgery. The candidate must have a consultation with the doctor so the physician can assess if the patient meets the requirements for this type of surgical procedure. The doctor will need to check past medical history, current medications, and any past procedures that have been done, if any, to the scalp. If the candidate is approved for the procedure, they will have to have blood work done prior to the day of the surgery.

The actual procedure could take 5-6 hours. During the surgery, the patient is put under a local anesthesia, and once the patient is prepped and ready, the doctor will take a small strip of the patient’s scalp where there are healthy hair follicles and remove it. The removed strip is then sent so the hair follicles can be prepared. Once that is complete, the healthy follicles are then transplanted back onto the scalp, to an area where the hair is thinning or balding. This then completes the hair restorationprocedure.

The transplanted hair takes about 5 days to successfully attach to the scalp. The patient will be given mediation to apply to the affected areas and will have to be careful with the scalp until it has healed. Essentially, the patient must take the necessary caution to make sure the hair heals and remains transplanted. The entire healing process should take about 7-10 days.

Hair restoration is a big decision that should not be entered into without proper research. A patient is strongly advised to visit their local hair transplant center and review all of the information and make sure they have chosen the right doctor for the job. The center will be able to go over the steps of the procedure, what to expect after, and the costs associated with the surgery. Scheduling a consultation is the first step and will help the patient find the right physician for them.

If you are at the point to where you are about to make a decision about your hair loss solution, you definitely want to take the time to get some information. So here you are and you have decided to have hair transplant surgery. In my opinion, hair transplantation has come a long way and really is not what it is perceived to be.

Generally, when one thinks of a hair transplant, they think of seeing some guy in a shopping mall, and embarrassingly, it is obvious he had a hair transplant. His hair line looks like a doll head of hair and it looks awful. This is unfortunate because the art and technology for hair transplantation has come a long way in the last twenty to twenty five years. Bad hair transplants are rare these days and if you do happen to get a bad hair transplant, it can be corrected by a better surgeon afterward.

Yes, there are bad hair transplants out there. However, there are many, many men out there who have had hair transplantation surgery. These men have had great results, and nobody even knows they had a hair transplant. Why, because a good hair transplant is not identifiable. It looks good, and it looks natural. We only notice the bad hair transplants.

People with very sensitive scalp, highly prone to scars, or have tight follicles are advised to undergo a different transplant procedure called Follicular Unit Extraction. In this procedure, the hair strands are delicately extracted and then transplanting onto bald areas using a microscopic punching device. This is pretty much expensive than the traditional hair transplant costs but the quality of the results is highly satisfying to say the least.

Hair restoration surgeons talk about the procedure by grafts. Standard grafts consist of 5 to 10 hair strands per follicle, mini grafts consist of less than 5 hairs per follicle, and micro grafts consist of 1 or 2 strands per follicle. In the past few years, the pricing of these grafts has significantly decreased in value and oppositely their quality has dramatically improved. Back in the year 2000, for instance, a standard graft was charged as high as $20. Today, no surgeon can charge $8 per graft unless he or she wants to be defeated by a dozen of competitors.

Another consideration that you should put in mind is whether the procedure is only the solution that is available for you. Take time to evaluate your case and analyze if whether your problem is really that complex where transplant is very necessary. When you do that, you may be able to find yourself a more favorable alternative from that of hair transplant which will allow you to spend less. You may be able to find some products in the market which are more affordable for the purpose of curing your hair loss problems. Hair transplant for men may provide a lot of advantages but there are maybe a lot of more favorable solutions for your problem. Make sure that you have exhausted all of the available alternatives before trying the surgery.

Just when you think you have found the solution to your problems with balding, you might discover that hair transplant surgery is not for everyone. It is discouraging, but do not give up hope until you investigate to find out if you are a possible candidate. You may be surprised.

Here’s The Key Thing…

The most important thing to remember is that you need hair for the hair transplant to your balding areas. The hair has to come from somewhere on your body. Wherever you take the hair from is called the donor site. There can be different donor sites for different people.

The most common donor site for hair transplant surgery is on the head. If the sides and back of your head have full lustrous hair, you are in luck. This hair can be used as donor hair to replace hair you have lost on your balding spots. If your hair in these areas is not healthy, you face a difficult problem – where does the surgeon get the hair?

New Technology Brings Hope…

A new procedure allows doctors to use donor hair from other parts of the body. For example, if a man has a particularly hairy chest, some hair can be used from that area as donor hair for the head. This hair transplant procedure requires a surgeon skilled in the latest techniques in order to keep scarring to a minimum.

Another aspect of choosing donor sites is the color of the hair being used in the hair transplant. If it does not match the area around the balding area, it will look unnatural. The texture should be even as well as the waviness or curliness of the donor hair and the area of hair around the balding area.

If you have lost your hair due to genetics, or a family history, you will likely be a good candidate for hair transplant surgery. Men who have hair loss in their families usually have a good idea of the way the baldness pattern will play out.

Your Family Genetics May Matter…

Your relatives may have had hair that went bald into a horseshoe pattern and held at that stage. If this is the case, your surgeon will know what to expect. Then, he can take “bald-proof” hair from the sides and back of your head as donor hair and perform the hair transplant.

If you have lost your hair because of some kind of trauma or burns, you will also make a good candidate for hair transplant surgery. This is because the hair you still have will probably still be healthy. It will provide good donor hair for your hair transplant. The most likely situation is that you will have enough hair to make this possible. However, if you have lost too much hair, a hair transplant may not be possible.

You can benefit greatly from hair transplant surgery if it is right for you. Do not give up on it until you talk to a surgeon. If your surgeon says that you are not a good candidate for hair transplant surgery, you may want to get a second opinion. However, if you are a good candidate for the procedure, it is nice to know that there is a good reason you are being accepted. It will make you more confident in your surgeon.

For any person who is thinking about going for hair transplantation, this is the most basic question – Would the hair transplantation work?

Researches are going on and generally it is believed that the transplanted hair from one person to another will be rejected unless anti rejection medicines are taken for life.
However research and studies are going on and scientists are finding ways to transplant hair from one person to another without rejection. However it is believed that if the hair is transplanted from one own body than the chances of rejection are negligible.

In men, there are two types of baldness found:- One where men start losing hair by center and another which is most typical in women where hair loss is distributed through out the scalp. In the first kind of Hair loss, the transplantation is done by harvesting DHT resistant hair from the back of ones own scalp and then transplant it to the bald area. This kind of Hair transplantation is generally sustainable and in normal cases can be guaranteed that the hair will grow smoothly. But the other type of hair loss where the hair loss is through out the scalp, the transplantation is more difficult types and there is no guarantee that the hair would continue to grow in the recipient area.

Hair transplant is a multi stage procedure which starts from planning and ends with transplantation of hair. No hair is removed unless it is decided where will that hair be transplanted. People who will face continuous hair loss due to generic reasons, planning becomes all the more important . In this kind of progressive hair loss transplantation some hair are reserved for future transplantation. The possibility of hair loss is indicated by the family history of the person and also by the rate at which hair is lost. So before going for a Hair transplant it should be ensured that proper check up has been done and if there is a need for future transplant that it also should be discussed at the planning stage only.

Hair is very important for people. Studies show that men doled out millions of dollars annually on different hair restoration treatments available in the market. While women also get hit by baldness, the condition is more frequent in men. Hair transplant is a growing favorite choice for men who have problem with baldness.

For most men, hair is equal to self-esteem. The lost of their hair also amounts to the lost of their confidence. Unfortunately, balding is genetic so escaping it is useless. After trying every hair restoration treatments and medicines available in the market, a lot of men end up undergoing hair transplant procedure.

The procedure requires transferring hairs from a thick growth region to the balding regions. It is a minor procedure performed by a certified surgeon that needs the administering of local anesthesia. The surgery usually lasts for hours, around 4 to 8 hours at the most.

Hair transplant is not for everyone, though. It can only be done if you still have hair to move. The pattern of baldness in men usually starts at the front or top of the scalp. Some of the hairs from the back of the scalp will then be transferred to the front, the part where hair is absent.

The newest hair transplant procedure is the follicular unit extraction or FUE. This versatile process allows hair be transplanted to your head from other areas regions of your body, including neck, chest, stomach, arms and legs, back, and beard.

And while some say that you can continue regular activities at once following the procedure, it is still best to wait for a few more hours, or even an entire day, before driving or doing anything. Although you will possibly be conscious during the process, you will also be sedated. There may still be any hovering effect after the process.

The complete effect of the process won’t be visible until after the transferred hair follicles start to grow so you need to be very patient.

Before signing up for the hair transplant procedure, confer with your doctor first. As true in all surgical procedures, all patients who wish to undergo the procedure should be in complete health. It may be considered a comparatively safe operation, but any perils of surgery are also present here.

Before hair transplant surgery came along, how did men deal with their hair loss? For centuries, men have been losing their hair to genetics, age and inevitability. For centuries, men have tried to disguise their hair loss with powdered wigs, toupees and, more recently, removable hair systems that adhere to the scalp with special adhesive. Why all the worry about hair loss? Because feeling good is looking good and a healthy head of hair is intertwined, psychologically, to our feeling of well-being.

Why do thousands of men each year choose hair transplant surgery as a way to solve their hair loss? Because we feel better when the person we see in the mirror is the person we still expect to see. When our hair goes, so does a chunk of our self-worth. And while modern technology has made amazing breakthroughs in disguising the problem of hair loss, these solutions are not ever going to be like the real thing; the one important thing you get when you choose hair transplant surgery: your own hair growing back on your head.

To understand hair transplant surgery, you have to understand the answer to the question: Why does hair fall out? In the case of men, genes predetermine which areas will thin and bald eventually. Hormones? particularly DHT (dihydrotestosterone) that can shrink the hair follicles and weaken them until they fall out for good ? are a significant cause of hair loss. More accurately, once weakened this way, hair fails to regrow to replace the one that has fallen out in the natural shedding process. Thus if more fall out than regrow, baldness will ensue.

We?ve all seen the results of the early and awful attempts at hair transplant surgery with ?hair plugs?, which resulted in a scalp that looked more like the surface of a brush, not at all natural looking. Unscrupulous hair loss clinics even performed dangerous hair transplant surgeries by sewing a hairpiece directly onto men?s scalps. Never a good idea. Both of these procedures are now a thing of the past. For good reason men became suspicious of hair transplant surgery at that time.

However, in the past ten to fifteen years, amazing technological breakthroughs have improved the way hair replacement surgery is performed. One type of hair transplant surgery is called Follicular hair transplant surgery, which utilizes micro-surgical techniques and the hair loss patient?s own hair, harvested from an area at the back of his head. One to two strands of hair at a time are individually implanted into the area of the scalp that requires hair. By the end of the hair transplant surgery, thousands of such individual strands with roots intact are implanted into the scalp of the hair loss patient. Great care is taken to angle the hair properly, to give a natural frontal hairline to the patient and to give what will become good coverage of the scalp.

The hair harvested from this back area of the scalp for follicular hair transplant surgery is not prone to the same genetic problems as the hair in the frontal areas. These harvested hairs are predetermined to keep growing, just as they would at the back of a man?s head throughout his life. Once hair transplant surgery is complete, the hair that is visible will shed or fall off. But the root that is still in the scalp will be settling in to grow. Within six months, a new head of hair will grow where no hair was before. Hair transplant surgery is a viable solution to hair loss.

While men?s hair transplant surgery is more common, women, too, suffer from hair loss and can benefit from hair transplant surgery. Women tend to lose their hair in an all-over pattern instead of the typical pattern baldness men experience. Often, hair becomes extremely thin, because hair stops growing back once it falls out. Dihydrotestosterone can affect women in this same way as men, but other factors, such as chemical over-treatment, and tension Alopecia due to over-styling are more common in women who suffer from hair loss.

Gina Reyes underwent treatment for breast cancer with radiation and chemotherapy. Her hair fell out, as expected, but unlike others who regrew their hair, Gina?s hair never came back as thick as it had been before. Her recovery was difficult, made worse by how she felt when she looked in the mirror. She tried everything to cover her hair loss condition, but finally settled on hair transplant surgery. Her recovery was relatively easy and within a month the hair transplanted into her scalp shed. But then, the roots began to grow and Gina?s hair began to look like it used to look. Within a year, she had a new head of hair and her chemo treatments no longer stared at her in the mirror whenever she looked at it. No more will she have to worry about hair systems that adhere to her scalp, or needing to shave what hair she has left to apply it. No more wigs that don?t breathe in the heat. The hair from her hair transplant surgery is real, growing hair.

If you?re suffering from hair loss and you?ve tried the other hair loss solutions only to feel like you?re wearing someone else?s hair, consider going to a hair transplant surgery clinic to see if you are a candidate for hair transplant surgery. The cost is relatively high, but financing is usually available. And when you add up the other hair loss solutions over a lifetime, then add in how you?ll feel about yourself when it?s done, you may just find it?s worth the price of being you again.

What did men do about their hair loss before hair transplant surgery? For centuries, men have been in search of a solution to their hair loss problems. Wigs, toupees, and more recently the dreaded hair plugs have graced men?s heads with unfortunate results. Modern technology has made tremendous breakthroughs regarding hair loss, in the last decade or so, from topical solutions (like Rogaine or Propecia) that halt hair loss to the more permanent solution of hair transplant surgery. But for those who are sick of daily medication, and do not want to wear a hair system, hair transplant surgery maybe the answer they?ve been hoping for.

At the very mention of hair transplant surgery, most people immediately think of unnatural-looking surgery of the past where plugs of hair were inserted into the scalp, making it look, well, polka-dotted and awful. It was a terrible solution primarily because the groupings of 15-25 hairs doctors implanted in the scalp did not mimic what occurs naturally on the scalp. Naturally, hair grows in groupings of 2-4 strands, no more. And there is a direction in which these strands of hair grow that determines how the hair falls once it grows out. One new hair transplant technique takes that into consideration. When surgeons developed new methods using micro-tools, they were finally able to harvest hair follicles in small enough groupings to make what is called follicular hair transplant surgery look natural.

According to the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), understanding what made our hair fall out turned the tide in follicular hair transplant surgery. Doctors discovered that hair taken from the back of the head tended to be immune to the same process of weakening and falling out that the hair on the top of head was.

So how does follicular hair transplant surgery work? Robert Collins can tell you. The forty-year-old has gone through the process. ?I was skeptical at first, worried it might look fake or unnatural,? Robert said. ?But I asked to see the hair transplant surgery photos my surgeon had and I felt more confident. Also, a friend of mine who suffered from hair loss had done the procedure the year before and I wanted my hair to look as good as his.?

Robert made an appointment with a surgeon who specialized in follicular hair transplant surgery and did the preliminary work-up which included studying his scalp to make sure he had enough hair in his donor hair area to donate. On the day of the surgery, with light sedation and topical anesthesia, the hair transplant surgeon incised an eliptical-shaped piece of scalp from the back of Robert?s head?the place where the hair follicles are not generally subject to falling out permanently. While he was closing that wound (which would be completely covered by his hair) technicians got busy separating small sections of skin and hair. With 1-4 vellus hairs in each group carefully sectioned, along with oil glands, a band of collagen and a small muscle, each section had all the requirements to regrow in the scalp. Then, the surgeon delicately replaced these follicular hair transplant sections, paying close attention to the direction the hairs were growing. When he?d finished the hair transplant surgeon dressed his scalp with a bandage that allowed for breathe-ability.

In the ten days it took for his scalp to heal, all of the external hairs the hair transplant surgeon had positioned in Robert?s scalp fell out due to the stress of the surgery. That was perfectly normal and did not affect the follicular roots settling into place there. Robert was able to go back to his normal life again, looking just as he had before. But within three months, hair began to sprout in the places where the surgeon had placed them during the hair transplant surgery. After a year, he had a full head of hair again. This all happened so gradually that no one really noticed the change, except that Robert had hair now. And this hair would not fall out as his old hair had.

?I don?t regret doing the hair transplant surgery it for a minute,? Robert says now. ?Not only do I look like myself again, I feel like myself. I?ve got my confidence back.?

Hair transplant surgery remains at the top end financially of hair loss solutions. It is not cheap. But considering the long term necessity of using hair systems that need maintenance, or topical hair therapy medications that can never be stopped once started, or the even more unpleasant prospect of being bald for the rest of one?s life, the cost of hair transplant surgery is not so bad. Most patients are able to spread the cost of the surgery into affordable payments. But most importantly, find a surgeon who is an expert in hair transplant surgery with a great reputation to help restore your hair and your confidence.

There is a lot of money and inevitably a fair amount of hype in the Hair Restoration industry. Most of us understand that in this less than perfect world, a few claims are likely to be made that maybe don’t tell the whole story, if ya know what I’m sayin’.

How much can it cost? How much hair can they put on your head? When is a hair transplant the best option? How many surgeries to get it done? Can something go wrong?

Take five minutes to find out the answers to these questions and what they DON’T want you to know about hair transplants.

HOW MUCH CAN IT COST? Charges are ?per graft? of from one to five hairs in most instances. There is also a method of extraction ?FUE? or follicular unit extraction that removes and replaces one hair per each and every graft. The lowest price I can find is $2.50 per graft with from $3 to $8 dollars per graft being the ?going? rate. Your individual situation is going to determine how many grafts you may need but from one to five thousand grafts is a good ball park figure to work with. If you haven’t already done the math that means that five figure surgeon’s fees are not uncommon for this procedure.

HOW MUCH HAIR CAN THEY PUT ON YOUR HEAD? It’s important for you to understand that you are limited by how much replacement hair–hair not subject to rejection by DHT remains on the back and sides of your head to be transplanted. Each individual has a different ?pattern? of baldness and a different amount of donor hair.

WHEN IS A HAIR TRANSPLANT THE BEST OPTION? One of the problems with evaluating hair restoration surgery as an option is that the earlier the stage of hair loss the less reliable are predictions about donor hair amounts. Generally hair loss must be fairly well along to predict the available amount of donor hair and waiting for more hair loss to occur will almost certainly deprive you of other better options. It could be the ?best? option when the hair loss has run it’s course and your doctor’s analysis is that your individual pattern of baldness will yield enough donor hair to reach your goals.

HOW MANY SURGERIES TO GET IT DONE? Some times it’s a one shot deal but you should plan on having more than surgery. Some of the hair may not ?take?. It might ALL take but some additional local hair may fall out. Lastly the hair requires anywhere from 4-12 months to completely grow back. After this time you and your doctor will decide if you need another turn under the knife.
CAN SOMETHING GO WRONG? All the inherent risks of surgery apply here.

You’re going under anesthetics. There will be some pain and swelling. They will have to remove stitches in about ten days. There is a long recuperative period. The most common problems have to do with scarring but doctors have developed and are developing extraction methods designed to contend with this. Regardless of which method you choose, quality in general is very good. Gone forever are the old fashioned ?plug? like transplants. Surgically restored hair should be permanent and completely natural in appearance. It?s major limitation is the uncertainty involved in estimating how many donor hairs will be needed as opposed to how many will be available.

The major appeal of hair transplants is that they offer natural hair for someone in the latter stages of hair loss. They are limited, by donor hair available. A transplant is also the most expensive and time consuming alternative that is gradually becoming outdated for more and more people due to continued advances in other approaches to hair loss. Today’s generation of young men will be the first, if they choose, to keep their natural hair without surgery.

Hormones- particularly DHT (dihydrotestosterone) that can shrink the hair follicles and weaken them until they fall out for good – are a significant cause of hair loss. More accurately, once weakened this way, hair fails to regrow to replace the one that has fallen out in the natural shedding process. Thus if more fall out than regrow, baldness will ensue.

Weve all seen the results of the early and awful attempts at hair transplant surgery with hair plugs, which resulted in a scalp that looked more like the surface of a brush, not at all natural looking. Unscrupulous hair loss clinics even performed dangerous hair transplant surgeries by sewing a hairpiece directly onto mens scalps. Never a good idea. Both of these procedures are now a thing of the past. For good reason men became suspicious of hair transplant surgery at that time.

However, in the past ten to fifteen years, amazing technological breakthroughs have improved the way hair replacement surgery is performed. One type of hair transplant surgery is called Follicular hair transplant surgery, which utilizes micro-surgical techniques and the hair loss patients own hair, harvested from an area at the back of his head.

These harvested hairs are predetermined to keep growing, just as they would at the back of a mans head throughout his life. Once hair transplant surgery is complete, the hair that is visible will shed or fall off. But the root that is still in the scalp will be settling in to grow. Within six months, a new head of hair will grow where no hair was before. Hair transplant surgery is a viable solution to hair loss.

While mens hair transplant surgery is more common, women, too, suffer from hair loss and can benefit from hair transplant surgery.

Her hair fell out, as expected, but unlike others who regrew their hair, Ginas hair never came back as thick as it had been before. Her recovery was difficult, made worse by how she felt when she looked in the mirror. She tried everything to cover her hair loss condition, but finally settled on hair transplant surgery. Her recovery was relatively easy and within a month the hair transplanted into her scalp shed. But then, the roots began to grow and Ginas hair began to look like it used to look. Within a year, she had a new head of hair and her chemo treatments no longer stared at her in the mirror whenever she looked at it. No more will she have to worry about hair systems that adhere to her scalp, or needing to shave what hair she has left to apply it. No more wigs that dont breathe in the heat. The hair from her hair transplant surgery is real, growing hair.

If youre suffering from hair loss and youve tried the other hair loss solutions only to feel like youre wearing someone elses hair, consider going to a hair transplant surgery clinic to see if you are a candidate for hair transplant surgery. The cost is relatively high, but financing is usually available. And when you add up the other hair loss solutions over a lifetime, then add in how youll feel about yourself when its done, you may just find its worth the price of being you again.

Previously, we announced that hair loss treatment Los Angeles center as a leader in hair restoration, is launching a new research to compare different methods of hair restoration Beverly Hills treatment with FUE method (between May and July of 2010). The study is conducted on certain days by hair loss treatment Beverly Hills Dr. Mohebi and the volunteers who are qualified for participation in the research can receive a 50% discount off the cost of their FUE transplant procedure.

Are You a Candidate?

This discounted rate of the FUE cost does not apply to any of our other hair transplant procedures. Applicants can call 1 (800) 302-8747 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Mohebi in order to determine their eligibility for a FUE procedure. If you are unsure whether or not FUE is the right procedure for you, then before your consultation, please read about FUE surgery in our website. You can also read several posts on Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) including FUE transplant vs. strip surgery in The Hair Restoration Blog.

Methods of FUE

In this study, all FUE procedures will be performed by hair transplant Beverly Hills specialist, Dr. Mohebi himself. All stages of FUE transplantation follow our standard procedures and the only difference is going to be the technique of harvesting hair follicular units. We will use two main techniques for extracting the follicular unit grafts including manual and automated methods. For the automated method, we will use either the NeoGraft machine or Harris’ Safe System. The patient cannot choose the system that we will use. The volunteers will be randomly selected for one of the above FUE methods.

The above described techniques are among the well-known effective methods of performing FUE transplant surgeries. We hope that by performing this study, we will be able to elucidate the pros and cons of each currently used method and be able to introduce a preferred method of Follicular Unit Extraction to the field of surgical hair restoration today. The results of this study will be released on our website and in future medical literature.

If you’re considering hair restoration surgery, take three minutes to learn all you need to know about this new hair transplant procedure.

To understand FUE (follicular unit extraction) you need to understand a little about the traditional means of transplanting hair otherwise known as the ?strip harvest? method. In this method, a ?strip? of one to five hairs is taken from the back of your head and the donor area is then sutured together.

The strip harvest method will cause a thin scar to develop on the back of your head at the point of the suture. In a nutshell, FUE avoids this scar. To be fair, some Doctors also feel that there is a quality difference with FUE but this is far from proven and chances are at least as good that the quality difference is a result of the skill level of the surgeon. Here are the three things you need to know before considering this procedure.

1)FUE costs more–considerably more. Pricing your individualized hair transplant is beyond the scope of any responsible article. But I can tell you that the charge for all hair restoration surgeries is ?per graft?. In order for the patient to reach his (her) goals, grafts of anywhere from a thousand to five thousand or more can be required. The cost is anywhere from $2.50 to $8.00 per graft. The industry trend is for these prices to go down but these numbers give you a good basis for comparison. FUE trans-plantations are one hair at a time. The strip harvest method, by comparison, while each graft does not include an exact number of hairs it would be safe to guess that FUE costs between two and three times as much as the more traditional method.

2)The ?Advantage? of avoiding the scar is limited. In most cases the scar the FUE avoids is no big deal. Why? Because in most cases you can cover up the scar by allowing the hair on the back of your head to grow out an eighth of an inch or more. The second reason is that you may be exchanging one scar for another! FUE uses a circular blade to remove one hair at a time and that blade has been known to cause circular ?golf ball like? scarring.

3)FUE is a means not an end. Even if money is not an issue, selecting the method of transplant is not like choosing the dressing for your salad in a restaurant. You may not necessarily know what’s good for your situation. If you walk into the office and demand the more expensive FUE trans-plantation you probably will be accommodated but you won’t have any way of knowing if the extra cost is going to be worth it. If your Dr. suggests this procedure, let him prove it’s necessity by showing you pictures of past clients with similar hair profiles. Even then, before selecting FUE, I would check with a doctor willing to consider the strip harvest method. In any case, you should make your decision based upon the Dr.’s reputation and the pictures of his past work and not upon some marketing campaign for a new surgical procedure.

Hair is very important part of our body. Though they are comprised of dead cells but their absence can make a lot of difference in a persons outlook and appearance. Looking attractive and beautiful is something everyone wants and being bald is not a fashion statement. A bald person not just loses his self confidence but also becomes a matter of laugh among his friends and colleagues. He is called with various names that make him feel inferior inside. Therefore, understanding the importance of hair is essential.

You may have kept great care of your hair always and are puzzled for why they are shedding off. The cause of hair breakage can be many but for some baldness is borrowed from their ancestors. Even though you have used the most expensive shampoo of all time you are bound to get bald if your forefathers were. But you should be happy to be born in a time when hair baldness can be treated easily with the help of hair transplant surgery available. Hair transplant is a great way in which a person can get back his hair and look. Bald people look older than their actual age and young people losing hair find it very embarrassing. Oftentimes they are not able to find an appropriate match for themselves because of their baldness. They have to feel social harassment but not anymore.

The most important thing in hair transplant procedure is finding the right surgeon. Choosing someone with years of experience is important than going with someone who offers you a cheap treatment. You must not compromise on this aspect because unprofessional treatment can lead to serious consequences and after effects. You must research carefully about all the surgeons available in your area or city. The right surgeon will help you get a natural and clean look in not more than one sitting. The surgeons with low experience may offer you an eye popping cost but then taking a risk with your body is not worth it.

Here are some tips to consider while thinking of hair transplant

1.Considering other patients and your friends who have already undergone the treatment will help you pick the best surgeon. A good surgeon will minimize any risks and side effects associated with the surgery.

2.The cost of hair transplant is the major question for many of us. The cost not just varies from one surgeon to another but also from one person to another. The area of your head where you wish to get the transplant done decides for its cost.

3.Frontal hair transplant is the most common among all. hair loss from the front part of the head is often seen in men. Frontal hair transplant helps in overcoming this problem.

4.A surgeon that you choose must be certified one. You should also not use any products that are not certified by FDA because these products may harm your skin and worsen your condition further.

5.It is important to take post surgical care of the treated area. You must follow various guidelines mentioned by the surgeon to reduce the after effects.

These tips will help you finding the right surgeon for sure.

If you’re a man or woman in the San Diego area, and you are suffering from hair loss, then you have probably thought about taking some action. The problem is that you don’t know where to go. Sure, you’ve looked at the options. You have probably seen advertisements on television for products that promise to bring back your hair. And you’ve probably also tried combing your hair in certain ways and wearing hats to hide the fact that you are suffering from baldness. If you are reading this article, then you have not given up yet, and this is great, because there is some good news. There is in San Diego now a clinic that will perform medical hair transplant surgery and have you looking better than you ever have before.

A fact about residents of San Diego is that they’re smart, educated people. This means that you’re not going to read this article and be convinced. You will want to do some research. That’s easily done, because you will be able to find hair replacement clinic websites right now. The trick here is that you want the clinic you use to be safe and to make you look great. There’s only one way to guarantee this, and that’s by making sure that the clinic you visit offers a natural process. You will want to stay away from chemicals and products that offer magic formulas. These will only irritate your scalp. You need a permanent hair transplant that feels good because it is natural.

The best way to make sure you’re visiting the best hair transplant clinic in San Diego is to go in and see for yourself. Now you probably have some questions. You’re probably wondering why a smart person like yourself would pay for a visit that you might not even like. Well, if you’re going to a medical hair restoration clinic to find out if you’re a good candidate, the clinic should give you a consultation for free. If they don’t do this, then they are not the best choice for you.

If you have more questions about your San Diego hair transplant, ask your friends in the area. Chances are they will tell you the same thing. The truth is that there is only one safe and permanent way to get your hair back, and that’s through hair restoration surgery. You will be looking like yourself again, and perhaps even better. The best part is that the procedure is completely natural, so it’s completely safe. You will have no worries and you will be more secure and confident than you have ever been before.

For those of you who have weighed the pros and cons of all the possible solutions to repairing your hair loss … these hair transplant surgery facts are on a ‘need to know’ basis!

By now you’ve learned that Hair Transplant Surgery is the only permanent solution for repairing your hair loss and that with today’s technology and artistry on the part of the physician, a totally natural crop of new hair can be your end result, where there was once baldness or thinning. You understand that it’s a medical procedure of transplanting hair from where it is growing healthy to a place where it is not growing and that it continues to grow normally where transplanted.

You may have determined that there are two types of hair transplant surgery. One is the strip method which works best for larger areas. The new Trichophytic Closure is a technique by which to trim the edge of a line scar closure so that hair actually grows through the scar so ask your physician about this procedure because it really minimizes line scars. The other way to obtain donor hair is by Follicular Unit Extraction where self-contained follicle units with roots are removed and replaced to the new area. Dr. Bernard Nusbaum, M.D., Hair Restoration Surgeon, Faculty of the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine and Dept. of Dermatology, takes us through some facts you may not realize about the procedure to help you make your decision…

NEED TO KNOW: Through neither procedure will you ever be able to shave your head – as a hairstyle. To minimize any scars from ever showing you will need to keep your hair at least ¼ to ½ inch long – a number 2 or 3 razor.

NEED TO KNOW: There’s no way to know how far your hair loss will progress. If you are a very young many in his twenties and even thirties, your balding pattern may not be well enough established. There is no existing exact technology for predicting the future of your balding. We look at family history, examine pattern currently, but still can’t be 100% sure.

NEED TO KNOW: To minimize future hair loss and help new re-growth be as healthy as possible we highly recommend the FDA-approved drug therapy of Propecia and topical Rogaine as long as you want to halt any additional hair loss. Otherwise, hair may recede and erode further beyond your transplant, requiring additional surgeries in the future.

NEED TO KNOW: male pattern baldness is a progressive condition of hair loss over time, so you may end up with isolated areas at the crown of your head that cannot be transplanted because you will be out of donor hair. A similar problem is the result if you end up with advanced Type 7 balding, in which you are left with a small rim of hair around the perimeter. In these cases, you may have to accept baldness on the top or back of your head, even if you have already had successful transplant surgery in the past on the top and to frame your face.

NEED TO KNOW: The first night of the surgery your scalp is going to feel sore where the hair was taken but the next morning it should feel better.

NEED TO KNOW: You will be required to shampoo gently every single day for about 14 days post-op to remove the little scabs and crusts (along with any bacteria) that will form on the implants as the healing process progresses. It takes about two weeks for crusts to come off – any stitches are removed at around 10 days.

NEED TO KNOW: Infections are extremely rare and healing is fast because scalp has such good circulation. If you have pus, redness, or fever those are signs of infections. Call your doctor.

NEED TO KNOW: For the first few days, you should sleep in a sitting position, at a 45 degree angle, to minimize any forehead swelling for which you can use ice compresses. Any swelling should disappear in a few days and has no consequences.

NEED TO KNOW: New hair grows in noticeably between three to six months. You may not be happy with your new hair growth until six months when you can actually see it. Your transplant will continue to fill in about 20-30% more by 12 months – at which time you will have the final result.

NEED TO KNOW: Sometimes transplanted hair may grow in a different, wiry texture at first as the follicle’s ability to form a normal cuticle readjusts. It will straighten out and soften up – don’t worry!

NEED TO KNOW: The price depends on the area to be covered – some surgeons charge by the follicle or graft – some charge by the session. The procedure generally ranges from $5,000 to $13,000 dollars.

NEED TO KNOW: The procedure can be repeated after a year as the scalp stretches, as long as your surgeon says you have enough healthy hair to transplant.

When 42-year old Ryan Graff, a family man and sales director from Tucson, Arizona, finally made the decision and opted for hair transplant surgery he didnt really know what he was getting himself into. Luckily, it was the best decision he ever made in his life, thanks in part to his board-certified hair transplant surgeon, his own patience, his family and the science behind the surgery. Also, great big thanks to Care Credit, which allowed him the funds to pay for his hair transplant surgery.

Even so, there were things he understood better on the other side of the surgery than he did before he went in. His hair transplant surgeon explained beforehand that hair transplant surgery is the only permanent solution for repairing his hair loss and that with todays technology and artistry on the part of the physician, his bald spot and receding portions around his hairline would look (and be!) totally natural again.

His doctor explained that a hair transplant surgery was the surgical procedure, based on science, of transplanting hair from where it is growing healthy to a place where it is not growing and that it continues to grow normally where transplanted. The surgeon further explained that he would be using a hair transplant surgery method called Follicular Unit Extraction where self-contained follicle units with roots are removed and replaced to the new area, as opposed to a strip method, which works better for larger areas.

After he had the surgery, Ryan found out that theres almost no downside to hair transplant surgery (unless youre worried about the cost). It really was done in one day and didnt hurt too much, although he took Advil that night. And he was able to shampoo right away and the crusting was minimal in the following days. He didnt even get any infections at all! He did find out, however, that he would never be able to shave his head.

To minimize any scars from a hair transplant surgery from ever showing he had to keep his hair at least to inch long a number 2 or 3 razor. But that was ok since he wasnt the shave-your-head type of guy anyway. He was actually psyched when he started to see the new hairs growing in around the third month, on the quick end of the scale. Most hair transplant patients he spoke with and hair transplant surgeons all said you had to wait at least 3-6 months and that the final result wouldnt be effective until 12 months, but Ryans grew in even faster than that. One strange thing was that his new hair transplant grew in different, wiry in texture at first, which freaked him out. But a call to his hair transplant surgeon quelled his fears and explained that it will straighten out and soften up as the follicles ability to form a normal cuticle readjusts.

He was a little worried to find out that even if you have one hair transplant surgery, that over time, if you keep balding more, then you might want another hair transplant to fill in new bald spots. He might eventually run out of donor hair and then have to live with baldness somewhere even though his hairline and other newly transplanted hair would still be there. He knew male pattern baldness was progressive, he just hadnt thought that through, and he still was pretty young and was not quite sure how his hair loss would progress.

He was pretty bummed that there is no existing, exact technology for predicting the future of your balding. Even when examining family history and the current balding pattern, no one can be 100% sure. So, hair transplant surgery can be repeated after a year as the scalp stretches, as long as your surgeon says you have healthy hair for a hair transplant surgery Donor site. Ryans hair transplant surgeon also prescribed the FDA-approved drug therapy of Propecia and topical Rogaine to minimize his future hair loss and help new re-growth be as healthy as possible. With everything he knew now, would Ryan still have chosen a hair transplant? You know it!

What are the costs of having a hair transplant? Well you can look at this from two different angles. You can look at the financial cost of getting a hair transplant – in terms of how much cash you’re going to have to splash to get the transplant you want.

You can also look at it from the point of view of the emotional and physical cost of a bad hair transplant and how much of an impact this can have on your life. Oddly enough these two “costs” are pretty closely related when it comes to the idea of hair restoration surgery.

In this article we’re going to look at both angles for your reading pleasure.

How much will a hair transplant cost you in money terms? All hair surgeons work out their procedures based on the number of hair grafts you’ll need to get the results you want. Each hair graft will have 1 – 2 hairs in it – well it would at least in a modern FUE style transplant. How many grafts you’ll need will depend on how much hair you’ve lose but you can expect to have between 2,000 and 5,000 hair grafts transplanted.

Now you can work out the total financial cost as each of these hair grafts will cost anywhere from $5 to $12 each. So with 2,000 grafts x $5 you’re looking at a cool 10 grand at least and more if you need more than the basic 2,000 grafts. Some transplant clinics do offer financing deals but that choice is entirely up to you.

Now we can have a look at the emotional “cost” of a hair transplant procedure. Any man or woman who has lost some or all of their hair will tell you it’s a devastasting experience. Nobody has ever been happy to lose their hair so it’s an upsetting experience full stop. That’s your first emotional “cost” right there – the trauma of having your “look” changed through no choice of your own.

The next emotional cost is when you wind up having a bad hair transplant – one that leaves you looking worse than you did before the procedure. There are so many great hair restoration surgeons around at the moment (Dr Cole, Dr Bernstein, Dr Umar, Dr Wood) that it means it’s rare to see really bad transplant work these days. Saying that some people do make bad choices but it’s good to know that hair surgeons like the guys I just mentioned can even repair sloppy transplant work.

Last but not least look on the bright side of the whole process – imagine the “bonus” of looking and feeling years younger after having a great transplant that not even your hairdresser will notice!

In the front and top part of the scalp, hair grows in a distinctly forward direction, changing to a radial pattern as it approaches the crown. The hair always emerges from the scalp at an acute angle, with the angle being most acute at the temples. In order for a hair transplant to look natural, the patient’s own hair direction must be closely followed. The one exception is that whorls — or licks — at the frontal hairline should not be duplicated if there is a good chance that the area will be lost because of balding. In this case, it is better to transplant the hair in the more neutral position, characteristic of the majority of men.

There has been a tendency for hair restoration surgeons to transplant larger grafts perpendicular to the skin. This is probably because the mechanics of the old plug procedures made sharp angling technically difficult and, if angled, resulted in more elevation and/or pitting when the grafts healed. Grafts often become slightly more perpendicular to the skin, compared to the way they were originally placed, as a result of the normal healing process. This perpendicular movement tends to magnify any errors in the transplant and is a phenomenon seen with grafts of all sizes. It is probably caused by the reorganization of collagen around the newly transplanted grafts.

The consequence of placing grafts perpendicular to the skin is most apparent when this mistake is made in the frontal hairline. A “Statue of Liberty” appearance results when the transplanted frontal area has hair pointing in radial directions. This makes combing the hair in any style problematic and invariably results in an unhappy patient.

Another problem with placing hair perpendicular to the scalp is that the viewer looks directly at the base of the hair shaft (i.e. where the hair inserts into the scalp). This contrasts with normal hair growth, or with a properly performed hair transplant, where the hair points forward. When a hair restoration surgeon plants hairs in a forward direction, the hair shaft bows presenting the convexity of the hair shaft to viewer. This makes the hair appear more soft and natural when groomed and gives a subtle fullness to the transplant.
