For men who have had an older transplant procedure, corrections can sometimes be performed by splitting up the “plugs” into smaller sections and redistributing them over the recipient area.

One way to avoid both of these issues in the first place is to have follicular unit transplantation (FUT) done instead of the cheaper strip procedure or the outdated “plug” approach. The FUT technique involves taking thousands of individual pieces of scalp from the back of the head for grafting. The resulting tiny round scars are distributed over the donor area and heal much more quickly than a long strip incision. The transplanted follicles are inserted in miniscule slits in the scalp. This approach permits the hairs to be densely packed into the bald area to create a full, natural appearance. Not all hair transplant clinics offer this method, so be sure to check before you commit to a procedure.
