Propecia: An Introduction

Propecia is prescribed to efficiently deal with the problem of male pattern hair loss around the locations such as anterior mid scalp and vertex. Propecia pills contain the key ingredient finesteride, which is also known as 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. You must be curious to know ‘how Propecia functions’. Propecia (finesteride) restricts the working of 5-alpha reductase, thus lowering the release of DHT or dihydrotestosterone. DHT brings about hair loss by rupturing hair follicles. This is particularly seen far more in males genetically sensitive to it. Propecia lowers the quantity of DHT in scalp and blood to a significant extent, thereby improving hair development. Propecia should be taken orally by people struggling with male pattern hair loss to speed up hair development and also to inhibit further hair loss. Propecia helps to enhance hair density and reduce hair loss within 3-6 months of therapy, contingent upon adhering to the doctor’s suggestions.

The manufacturers of Proscar Finasteride 5mg found in 1992 that the medicine made by them to treat and reduce men’s prostate conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, was growing back hair on some of the patient’s heads who had been bald hitherto. A few years of research later resulted in Propecia Finasteride 1mg which was dedicated to cure alopecia, or hair loss, in men. FDA put its seal of approval on the drug in 1997.

How to Use Propecia:

Don’t take Propecia without talking to the doctor. The key for quick outcomes is using the medicine as per the recommendations given by the physician. It also assists to keep the side effects, if any, at bay. Take Propecia with a glass of drinking water without or with food; nevertheless, be sure that you take it the same time each day. Usually, the dosage approved is one tablet per day for a time period of 3 months to obtain the best outcome. If you discontinue using the medication in the middle of the course, hair loss will relapse within a 12 month period of discontinuing the treatment. To ensure the treatment is delivering the expected outcome, your doctor will suggest periodic blood tests to be done. It’s very important to not consume a double dose of this medication for catching up on the missed dose.

Precautions and Notes

Read the following notes and precautions before taking Propecia.

- Store this medicine at a location that cannot be accessed by pregnant women. If a pregnant lady handles damaged or crushed pills, it may possibly spark off some dangers at the time of delivery. Propecia tablets are coated to prevent direct contact with the primary ingredient.

- Propecia may make you dizzy. Get up slowly if you’re lying or resting. Arising quickly from lying or resting position may make you feel giddy.

If you’re looking for a male pattern baldness cure then you are probably trying to figure out a way to stop losing your hair. Most of the time when you have this type of hair loss issue, you will notice that you are losing hair from the crown area of your head.
It will first appear as if your hair is thinning and when you don’t do anything about it; it usually results in a bald spot that gets bigger and bigger. This is very unattractive and for most men it is also depressing and will shrink there self confidence.

Most men that experience this problem feel that when you don’t have a desirable grade of hair on your head it can prevent you from getting job promotions and even destroy your ability to attract really good looking women. If you are experiencing symptoms like the ones I just described including the loss of confidence and low self esteem then this male pattern baldness cure I am about to describe is for you.
But before I give it to you I need you to understand that hair loss is a problem and in order for you to get the best results from which ever type of treatment that you decide to go with you need to act on it as soon as you start noticing the first signs of trouble which is usually the thinning of your hair.

None the less it can pretty much be controlled from any stage just as long as you take some kind of action. With that said here is a male pattern baldness cure in the form of three tips that you should implement right away.
1st Tip
Being that the main problem of your hair loss is caused by the over production of a certain hormone called DHT it would be a wise move to attack this problem head on. The best and safest way to do this is to use an herb called Saw Palmetto. This is an all natural approach and it will help you to control the production of DHT by keeping it to a safe level.
2nd Tip

Once you do away with the high levels of DHT your hair follicles will be able to absorb the necessary vitamins and minerals needed to start growing strong, thick hair again. In short they will be hungry for this so the best thing to do next is to make sure that the vitamins and minerals are there for them to absorb. The best way to make sure that the right amounts are available would be to take a multi vitamin everyday.

3rd Male Pattern Baldness Cure Tip
Now you have done two very important things that will help you to start regrowing hair but your not yet finished as this final step would just take a few minutes to implement and it is really a very necessary step which will ensure that the last two steps are going to be effective.

If you do the last two steps without this one then your hair follicles may not get the nourishment that you are trying to send it so to ensure that they get the nourishment that they need you need to do this step too. You will need some minoxidil 5% and it should be rubbed onto the scalp where ever you want the hair to start growing back.
Once you complete all 3 of these tips then you will have done everything to get your hair regrowing again.

The condition is characterized by a typical pattern of receding hairline at the temples and hair thinning on the crown. It can progress to partial or complete baldness in some cases. This is the cause of hair loss in about 90% of men and more than one third of men are in their thirties. The percentage of men affected by MPB increases with advancing age.

How to identify MPB?

Excessive loss of hair
Hairline recedes from the front, temples
Thinning of hair on the crown
Bald patch on the top of the scalp
Partial baldness
Complete baldness at a later stage

How does it happen?
The male hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone) is important for the normal male sexual development. However, in some cases, the hair follicles are genetically sensitive to this hormone and exposure to it results in shrinkage of the follicles. This shortens the lifespan of the follicles and prevents them from producing hair normally. Hair follicles in the temples and crown of the scalp are more sensitive to this hormone and hence hair loss affects these areas more prominently.
Genetic cause is a strong factor for developing male pattern baldness and almost 80% of balding men have a history of baldness in their father or grandfathers.

Stages of male pattern baldness according to the Norwood Hamilton Scale:
Stage 1: No hair loss. The head is full of hair.
Stage 2: Minor recession at the front of hairline and some temporal recession. This stage may not even be called as balding.
Stage 2A: Recession progresses across the entire frontal hairline.
Stage 3: Temporal recession deepens.
Stage 3A: Frontal recession keeps progressing backwards.
Stage 3V: Besides the loss of hair in the frontal and temporal regions, there is early hair loss from the crown (vertex).
Stage 4: Frontal and temporal hair loss progresses and there is enlargement of the bald patch at the crown.
Stage 4A: Hair loss progresses past the mid-crown.
Stage 5: Bald area in the front enlarges and starts joining the bald area at the crown.
Stage 5A: Bald patches in the front and at the crown fuse and keep enlarging. The back part of the bald area is narrower are compared to stage 6.
Stage 5V: The bald patch at the crown enlarges although it has still not fused with the bald area at the front.
Stage 6: Frontal bald area and the one at the crown are fused and continue to enlarge. The back part of the bald area is wider than in stage 5.
Stage 7: Extensive baldness where only a strip of hair remains at the back and sides of the head.

For many of use exterior and looks play a very important role in everyday life. We really depend on the way we look because we are social beings and it really matters to us how other members of the society see us. The looks can communicate a lot of information about us even if we don’t want it. This especially applies to such aspect of human exterior as thin hair and baldness. While there’s nothing wrong about loosing hair and it isn’t necessarily a sign of poor health, many people still perceive balding as an unpleasant detail in a man’s exterior. So what’s the problem all about and should one get worried if he notices the first signs of a rather common problem – male pattern hair loss.

Male pattern hair loss is characterized by hair thinning and balding that starts in the crown area and the hairline and gradually progresses towards complete baldness or partial baldness when there’s still hair on the sides of the scalp while the front and top parts of it are left completely bald. This type of hair loss is much more common in men – thus the name – yet it can sometimes be observed in women as well.

Previously it was believed that male pattern hair loss primarily stems from the process of aging. This belief was widespread for a very long time because of the simple observation that this type of hair loss usually progresses in men who reach their 40′s and 50′s. Yet there were also many cases of much younger people dealing with the same problem so the initial theory was seriously questioned when the time came for new developments in medicine. There should be another reason for male pattern hair loss to occur and it was actually discovered as closer studies on the nature of hair loss have been undertaken.

As it turns out the main cause of male pattern hair loss is not aging nor is lack of nutrition or hygiene, although these factors can still influence the development of the problem. It was found that this type of hair loss primarily stems from delicate hormonal balance, to be more precise it is triggered with the accumulation of a specific androgen called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This hormone results from conversion of testosterone and gets accumulated in the body with age. Yet, the rates at which the amount of DHT gets accumulated is different in each person that’s why some men never experience problems with hair while others get bald spots in their 20′s.

Now it becomes evident that the most effective way to overcome male pattern hair loss is to prevent the build up of DHT in the body. And that’s exactly how drugs like Propecia work – they eliminate the cause of the problem from the inside instead of trying to overcome the consequences externally like most hair loss drugs do.

male pattern baldness is a nightmare for all men about the globe. The purpose for this is that the hair loss due to this condition is not reversible and is permanent.

The moment a particular person starts losing hair and is diagnosed with male pattern baldness, there is nothing one can do except reside with the truth that they are going bald and start therapies right away to consider and manage the progress of the hair loss.

Male pattern baldness happens in pretty much half the men below sixty many years of age and in about two-thirds of men when they attain their mid sixties. In some cases it can take place as early as in the teenage many years.

When there is no treatment but that will quit the hair loss and regrow hair, the genuine trigger behind this condition has now been understood pretty obviously.

Scientists have now come to a conclusion that male pattern baldness is the result of the action of the male sex hormone Di-hydrotestosterone or DHT on the hair follicles which causes the follicles to shrink and ultimately die, making no hair at all. DHT is synthesized by the enzyme five alpha reductase. When this DHT binds to the hair receptors, it causes the follicles to shrink in size and create thinner hair above time.

It must be noted that DHT is present in the scalp of all men, but for men with the baldness gene, the hair follicles are sensitive to DHT.

It is hence pretty logical that the only way to combat the effects of male pattern baldness is to cut down the production of DHT or in other words, manage the secretion and synthesis of DHT by five-a-reductase.

There are two FDA approved therapies available for treating male pattern baldness - Minoxidil and Finasteride.

Even though they do not quit hair loss absolutely, they are pretty powerful in controlling and in some cases even reversing hair loss. Finasteride was initially utilized as a treatment for prostate cancer but it later showed beneficial benefits in treating pattern baldness. It operates by blocking five-a-reductase which converts testosterone to DHT. Finasteride is most powerful in stopping the hair loss from progressing and has no effect in regrowing new hair. One more drug by the name of minoxidil does precisely this, that is it stimulates regrowth of hair. It operates by increasing blood flow to the hair follicles therefore promoting development of more powerful and healthier hair.

It must be noted that as soon as these therapies have started, they must be utilized throughout ones lifetime or else what ever hair the drugs regrew will ultimately fall out. It must also be noted that it can take up to 6 months to see any important benefits.

It’s essentially a completely natural botanically derived program. Procerin is accessible in oral tablet as well as topical preparation and this can be used every day to control hair thinning. Because of the ingredients such as herbs, minerals and vitamins, there isn’t any need for a doctor’s prescription to buy this as stated therefore this does not call for frequent visits to your physician. The components of the product consist of gotu kola, saw palmetto, eleuthero root magnesium, nettles, zinc sulfate, and muira puma root.

This product is an effective option for thinning hair reversal in males, which is mostly brought on by Androgenetic Alopecia. The thinning of the hairline and the typical hairline recession also identified as widow’s peak is the most acknowledged result of Andorgenetic Alopecia. The production of a chemical substance identified as DHT (dihydrotestesterone) is definitely the chief cause for this situation in most men. The process naturally involves this particular enzyme in the male’s body, the 5-alpha-reductase, changing the hormone testosterone, accountable for the characteristics of a male directly into DHT, resulting in the thinning or recession of the hairline. Procerin functions at this stage as a natural Dihydrotestosterone inhibitor. The five alpha- reductase together with specific herbs and minerals (which are supplied by the natural supplements present in Procerin) when blended into a suitable mixture can stop the effects of DHT and also assist with the re-growth of hair. This is actually predominantly relevant for guys inside the age group of 18-35.

The makers, Speedwinds Nutrition Inc, have concentrated particularly on creating a hair loss management supplement using 100 % natural ingredients like herbs and minerals with the single intention to prevent the creation of DHT.

Procerin functions to block the DHT without making a reaction with your testosterone which is the male hormone thus keeping the whole process totally free from generating a harmful side effect unlike the prescription drug Propecia (finasteride) that often reacts with testosterone and produces a lot of side effects that impact the sexual drive of the user. Usually, men start to lose hair in their twenties and the hair thinning increases far more rapidly as they get older. There is a certain amount of hair loss among men but when they grow older, the hair’s natural growth cycle isn’t in a position to keep up and make up for the hair loss. For that reason, as mentioned, the best advantages of this item are for younger men and people with hair still growing. These individuals have a lot more hair count and would probably show more improvement. Typically the efficacy of Procerin for guys after this age bracket i.e.

Procerin is therefore advised for young men who are looking for a natural over the counter drug to combat hair loss. It really is advised that Procerin be used for a minimum of one to two months before looking for visible improvements. Although there are some users who have reported improvements in much less than a two weeks, using the product for a longer period of time is recommended.

Male pattern hair loss is not a health condition as such, but statistics would tell you that people pay just as much for treating this type of hair loss as they do for other severe health problems. The reason is very simple: people like having a full head of hair; it gives them a nice sense of body image and a youthful look. male pattern baldness treatments may range from using medication to wearing wigs and other concealing methods. While using wigs and ‘combing over’ can give you temporary solution to this problem, a better choice would be to go for a long-term treatment.

What is male pattern baldness?
Most balding men lose their hair to androgenic alopecia, commonly known as male pattern baldness. It is caused by hormonal and genetic factors. In this condition, you lose your scalp hair over a period of 2-5 years in a specific pattern. First the hairline recedes gradually, which is followed by thinning of hair on top of the head. Eventually the receding hairline meets the hairless part on the vertex and forms an ‘M’ shape, leaving a thin covering of hair on either side of the head.

What is the long-term solution to androgenic alopecia?
You can prevent male pattern hair loss with the help of medicine. Propecia finasteride is often the drug of choice for most men looking for a long-term solution to this type of hair loss. As it happens over a period of time, you cannot go against the clock to stop it or possibly regrow new hair. Finasteride can about 2-5 years to stop you from balding and possibly grow new hair. A 5-year clinical study with men using Propecia revealed that 33% men had no further hair loss after using Propecia for 2 years. About 66% men experienced hair regrowth while only 1% men continued to lose hair as before. At the completion of the study, 42% men stopped losing hair while 48% men had hair regrowth. The percentage of failure was just 10% after 5 years of Propecia hair loss treatment.

How does finasteride work?
So there are facts to support the effectiveness of finasteride. It is available as 1mg pills indicated to be swallowed whole with water. It works by lowering dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels, so that the hair follicles do not shrink. The hormone DHT, along with a gene variation that you can inherit from either parent, triggers male pattern baldness.

What if I do not get the results?
It usually takes 12 months to find out whether or not Propecia is working. Most men taking this medicine have reported a significant reduction in hair loss after taking Propecia pills continuously for 3 months. Probably after 6 months you will notice further improvement and by 12 months, you may be able to enjoy the full benefits of the finasteride baldness treatment. But make sure you keep reporting to your doctor at regular intervals, because if there is no noticeable improvement after using Propecia for a year, you may have to look for another hair loss treatment.

Have you ever experienced seeing your scalp more and more as you check yourself in the mirror? You are not alone. Two out of three men in the United States are said to develop male pattern baldness or MPB during their lifetime. Baldness among men usually starts with thinning of hair at the hairline, followed by the appearance of a bald patch found on the crown of the head.

MPB is a form of alopecia. Alopecia is characterized by loss of hair from the head and other parts of the body. There are many forms of alopecia, but the type associated with MPB is androgenic alopecia. This is to differentiate male pattern baldness from the patchy hair loss known as alopecia areata, loss of all head hair known as alopecia totalis, and loss of hair all over the body known as alopecia universalis.

The occurrence of baldness among males is attributed to a lot of factors. The primary factor, of course, is genetics. Some men have high levels of hormones that make hair follicles sprout shorter and finer strands before eventually dying out. Sometimes, these hormones even stop hair growth from the follicle completely. In the long run, the stock of hair becomes depleted resulting in the condition we know as baldness.

Men and women both carry the genes responsible for the occurrence of hair loss. Medical professionals contend that it usually does not have bearing as to whether which side of the family men inherit MPB from. However, a person”s chances of getting bald also increase by 50% if someone from the immediate family is already balding.

However, you should not mistake normal hair loss from male pattern baldness. There are times when you might experience noticeable hair loss. Though this may require diagnosis, this condition can be due to other factors such as diet, medications, improper hair care, and certain diseases. Improper hair care includes hairstyling routines such as ponytails, braids, dreadlocks, as well as hair relaxing solutions and hot hair irons. Hair loss of this kind can be treated successfully.

Since the 1950s, hair transplanting has become the most popular procedure among men with MPB in terms of permanent hair replacement. But these days, new innovations in hair replacement have surfaced, from topical creams and shampoos, to laser hair therapy to stimulate growth.

A typical hair transplant involves surgically implanting follicles to the balding areas of a patient to stimulate hair restoration. If the baldness of the patient is very extensive, several surgical sessions might be needed. Additional hair transplant sessions may also be added after a few weeks, in order to fill the gaps when the implanted hair follicles start growing in clumps. It takes approximately two years before you can actually see the most ideal results. Though this procedure is relatively costly, men are still clamouring for this treatment for MPB.

Hair baldness is a problem for millions of Americans and over one billion people around the globe. A common misconception is that it only occurs to men. It is not true, as most women suffer as well. Keep reading to see some new cures for male pattern baldness in males and females.

1. Topical Minoxidil. Loniten is the most popular topical solution. When you visit an over the counter shop, there are many generic forms which are somewhat cheaper. Loniten, whose active ingredient is minoxodil, is a cream or foam-like substance that you can use or apply to your head. However, it should be observed that it does not work on the hairline, only the top or crown of the head. There is also a particular formula for women, as male pattern baldness is different than the thinning that women face. So if you are a female, be sure to buy Loniten for women.

2. Propecia. This cannot be taken by women, it is only for men. It is an everyday pill that must be consumed for the whole of your life. The generic name is known as Proscar, and it is now available. You will require a prescription before you can take Propecia or Proscar. See the skin doctor to obtain the required prescription amount. Again, this medicine does not work on the front of the hairline; it works only on the crown. Nevertheless, in younger males who begin consuming it on time, it has worked in keeping hair on the front head.

3. Hair transplant. No longer are the periods of bad plugs that appear similar to a doll’s hair. Science has progressed to the point where a hair can be replaced by one follicle at a time, leading to results that are indiscernible or undetectable unless under a microscope. It is an outpatient form of treatment and the person will be back at work in the space of a day or two. It should also be observed that the strip method is also becoming out of date. That is where a strip of the back of your head is removed, and then dissected, your head is sewed up and the hair transplanted. Nowadays physician can remove hair from the back of your head one by one, leaving perfectly no scar at the back.

4. Laser light comb. It is among the new cures for baldness. This exciting advancement was of late approved by the Food and Drug Administration. It has been shown that light therapy can help re-grow hair.

Male pattern hair loss, medically known as androgenic alopecia, is the most common type of baldness millions of men experience. It does not happen overnight; it may take you 2-5 years to notice that half of your scalp hair is gone. While there is no complete cure, you can prevent your head from balding with proper and timely treatment. Talking of treatment and there is Propecia finasteride – one of the most sought after FDA-approved medicines to prevent androgenic alopecia and in some cases, to stimulate new hair growth. You can buy Propecia online from the comfort of your home and stop losing your locks to this genetic and hormonally induced condition.

Your baldness in depth

Every day you lose up to 100 hair daily out of 100,000 to 150,100 hair strands. This hair fall is normal as every two to six years, the hair finishes its growth and resting cycle and reaches its shedding phase. The reason men suffering from male pattern baldness lose more hair than normal is that their follicles become sensitive to a hormone commonly known as DHT. This hormone is medically known as dihydrotestosterone. When your hair follicles become sensitive because of age, hormonal changes or any other factors, you experience hair loss.

How to keep the follicles alive

If you know how to keep your hair follicles alive, you are well on the road to stop male pattern hair loss from occurring. One prescription medication, Propecia, which contains a chemical ingredient known as finasteride can help to avoid further shrinking of hair follicles because of DHT and can also help in reviving hair follicles that have already shrunk. Finasteride basically inhibits the level of DHT and help in stopping hair loss and in hair re-growth.

Spot the pattern

Unless and until you don’t know if your hair loss is because of male pattern baldness or some other reason, there are less chances of you seeking a treatment. Therefore, the first step is to understand the pattern of your hair loss. If you see bald spots in the middle part of your head and then from the crown and the sides, eventually which might lead to or has already led to an ‘M’ or horseshoe shaped bald area – you are suffering male pattern baldness. It is advisable to start treatment well before the ‘M’ shape is formed.

Genetic factors

Sometimes, DHT is not solely to be blamed for your hair loss. It can also be genetic in nature. Most scientists agree that hair loss in inherited from mother’s side of the family, though it has not been established.

Propecia at rescue

The good thing about Propecia is that it can not only help you to stop further hair loss but also reverse it. More than 90% men have experienced benefits and claimed that their hair loss is stopped within just a couple of months. 60% men have claimed to see new hair growth where they had totally lost hope. This drug is not only very effective but also safe with only 2% men saying they experienced side effects. These side effects too are not very serious and reversible in nature.

Stem cell science has put forth a theory that reports that adult stem cells can be used for hair regrowth in males who are suffering from male pattern hair loss. Scientists have been focusing on capabilities of stems cells for many years regarding their role in treating male pattern baldness and other types of permanent hair loss.

Stem cell theory of hair regrowth

It has been discovered by Professor George Cotsarelis and colleagues at University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia that in men with male pattern baldness, stem cells are present in the hair follicles of both bald and hairy regions in the scalp. Also, it is found that bald people have same number of stem cells as anyone else.

Adult stem cells have the ability to self-renew, which makes them different from other cells in the body. In this self-renewal process, a stem cell can replicate itself and make new stem cells, which are further capable of dividing and transforming into specialized cells. When these stem cells are manipulated into hair follicles, they replace the shrunk follicles and can produce new hair. With further research in the stem cell science, the thought of suffering from male pattern baldness will never again be of concern.

Impaired stem cells may cause male pattern baldness

It has been found that faulty stem cells can also be the cause of onset of male pattern baldness. A research was done on 54 men with male pattern baldness. The hair follicles were compared from bald and hairy regions of these men. Similar numbers of stem cells were found in both bald and hairy patches. But in the bald patch population of hair follicle, the progenitor cell was depleted. It was concluded that the stem cells in hair follicles of bald patches are defective in nature and are unable to mature into follicle progenitor cells that are necessary for hair regrowth.

Researchers concluded that there is a wide prospect of reversing baldness as there are normal numbers of stem cells in bald patch of the scalp. They hope to develop a treatment to reactivate the stem cells in the hair follicle and restore the normal function of hair follicles. This can lead to increased levels of progenitor cells and normal hair growth.

Houston Hair Restoration expert, Dr. Bernardino Arocha of Arocha Hair Restoration ( www.arochahairrestoration.com ), is calling this week’s announcement from researchers at the University of Pennsylvania a major breakthrough that could someday improve the lives of tens of millions of men. The team led by Dr. George Cotsarelis discovered hair growth stops at the cellular level among those experiencing androgenetic alopecia, also known as male pattern baldness. Their findings were published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation.

The researchers examined scalp samples from 54 hair transplant patients between ages 40 and 65, and found that stem cells remain just as plentiful on a bald scalp. However, for reasons that remain a mystery, there is a problem in the activation of stem cells converting to “progenitor” cells that grow from the adult stem cells into hair.

“Dr. Cotsarelis and his team have basically found that bald areas of the scalp are not really bald,” said Dr. Arocha. “They found microscopic hair and stem cells within the follicles on bald scalp samples. This discovery suggests that a treatment aimed at activating the stem cells on a bald scalp could effectively get hair follicles to grow again. It is something we will watch closely.”

Dr. Arocha regularly updates his services to incorporate scientifically proven tools and techniques to improve hair restoration results. His team recently began using ACell’s MatriStem technology to achieve improved hair growth and healing.

“While this latest discovery is very exciting, even the researchers are cautioning that it will likely take a decade or more to develop treatments,” Dr. Arocha said. “The good news is that men and women experiencing hair loss can take advantage of numerous proven hair restoration options right now that use a patient’s own hair to achieve a natural, undetectable result.”

Arocha Hair Restoration provides state-of-the-art hair transplant surgery and medications. Dr. Arocha has performed more than 3,000 hair transplants. A modern artistic hair transplant can achieve a natural and undetectable result by using a patient’s own growing hair follicles from the back of the scalp and carefully inserting the follicles in the previously balding areas of the scalp. The transplanted hair grows at the same rate, is a permanent solution and will never need replacing.

About Arocha Hair Restoration Led by Bernardino Arocha, M.D., Arocha Hair Restoration offers patients in Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth and throughout Texas and the United States a full range of hair restoration options including state-of-the-art hair transplant surgery and medications that promote hair growth. Arocha Hair Restoration uses advanced technology and a sophisticated hair restoration procedure to restore receding hairlines and crowns using the patient’s native hair.

Baldness is a very common problem affecting both men and women in the world , at a truly alarming rate. male pattern baldness is the most common type of hair loss in men. It usually follows a typical pattern of receding hairline and hair thinning on the crown, and is caused by hormones and genetic predisposition. Baldness effects the emotional as well as the physical wellbeing witch affects a persons self-confidence and also can cause depression with the sufferer.

Causes Of Male Pattern Hair Loss

Male pattern hair loss is an inherited condition, caused by a genetically determined sensitivity to the effects of dihydrotestosterone, or DHT. DHT has an adverse affect on the hair follicles. Acting on a hormone receptor on the hair follicle it slows down hair production and produces weak, shorter hair, sometimes it stops hair growth from the follicle completely. This process gradually depletes your stock of hair and is normal hair loss.

Generic Medication for Male Pattern Hair Loss

Propecia is the first and only FDA-approved pill proven to treat male pattern hair loss in men. Propecia (active ingredient finasteride) is a popular prescription pill used in the male pattern treatment. It has been clinically proven that Propecia successfully puts an end to hair loss and significantly increased the density of hair in the affected areas. Finasteride, the active ingredient present in Propecia, helps in the reduction of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels in the scalps of genetically predisposed men. Propecia blocks the formation of DHT and, in this way, appears to interrupt the development of male pattern hair loss. It helps reduce further hair loss and regrow visible hair. Propecia is for the treatment of male pattern hair loss in MEN ONLY and should NOT be used by women or children.

Side Effects of Propecia

Propecia is generally known to be a recommended and very safe medicine for the treatment of male pattern hair loss and very few people have reported its side effects. Some of the lesser reported Propecia side effects reported are a dizziness, weakness, headache, skin rash, runny nose, decreased libido or sex drive, erectile dysfunction and decrease in the ejaculate amount or semen. These were not permanent changes, and when those affected discontinued the use of Propecia, their symptoms disappeared.

Most men with premature hair loss are genetically predisposed to androgenetic alopecia – a condition that is commonly known as male pattern baldness. Male pattern baldness occurs because of the effects of testosterone-the primary male sex hormone- on your hair follicles. This hormone is present in high amounts in your body after puberty, and is converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) because of the action of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase. DHT works on he hormone receptors present in your hair follicles and slows the production of scalp hair. This results into hair which is shorter and weaker than normal, and sometimes your hair will stop growing completely. This gradual process will eventually results into total or partial baldness.

Stages of male patten hair loss

The onset of androgenetic alopecia usually begins at the end of puberty and is usually determined by your genetic inheritance. Most men start experiencing hair loss during their late 20s or early 30s. Hair loss initially occurs as a receding hairline and gradually progresses to thinning hair at the top of the head. Finally both areas will converge to form a U shape around the sides and back of the head. The remaining hair, if any, becomes finer in texture and the growth rate slows down. Moderate hair loss that occurs due to hormonal causes affects most men by age 50. This hormonal condition can be hereditary in nature.

What is Propecia?

Propecia (active ingredient finasteride) is a popular prescription pill used in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia. This clinically tested medication has been proven to prevent further hair loss and to promote hair growth in about 80% cases. Propecia is quite suitable for long term treatment in most cases of androgenetic alopecia. Finasteride, the active ingredient present in Propecia, helps in the reduction of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels in the scalps of genetically predisposed men.

How does Propecia work?

As testosterone is converted to DHT because of the action of 5-alpha reductase, finasteride blocks the action of this enzyme and lowers DHT levels in the scalp. This reduces the negative effect of DHT on the hair follicles and prevents or even reverses hair loss. Finasteride has been reported to reduce DHT levels by about 60%. Treatment with Propecia must be continued for about 3-6 months for optimum benefits.

Possible side effects of Propecia

Like other drugs, Propecia too can produce side effects your body, which might include sexual problems such as temporary impotence and low libido. But most of these side effects are temporary in nature and usually disappear without treatment. Pregnant women, in particular, need to avoid any kind of contact with finasteride, as it is known to cause birth defects in an the male foetus. It is advisable to follow your doctor’s instructions while taking this hair loss medication. Propecia has been specifically formulated to treat the symptoms of pattern baldness in men. It cannot be taken by women with female pattern baldness, nor can it be prescribed for men who experience hair loss because of cancer or chemotherapy.

male pattern baldness or otherwise known as androgenetic aloprecia affects millions of men around the world. Andro refers to the androgens (testosterone, dihydrotestosterone) necessary to produce male pattern hair loss. Genetic refers to the inherited gene necessary for male pattern baldness to occur. Hair loss may begin any time after puberty when blood levels of androgens rise; it usually begins receding in the temporal areas. In general, those who begin losing hair in their 20s will have the most severe hair loss outcomes.

Hamilton and Norwood have classified male pattern baldness shown on the picture below. Hamilton found that androgens are necessary for the development of male pattern baldness. Androgens present do not need to be greater than normal for baldness to occur. In every male hair loss will occur to some degree, however, if the gene for hair loss is present, male pattern baldness will take place.

testosterone is responsible for the growth of under arm and pubic hair, while Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is responsible for beard growth and male pattern hair loss. DHT is the conversion of testosterone by the enzyme 5 – reductase. DHT works by binding, then entering into the cell to interact with the nucleus, changing the DNA and ultimately causing the hair follicle growth to cease. Finasteride (Propecia) works by blocking the enzyme, decreasing the amount of DHT produced therefore slowing down or stopping the process of hair loss.

There are 3 phases in the hair growth cycle; Anagen – growth phase, Catagen degradation phase, and Telogen resting phase. Hair growth cycle is affected when there is a lower percentage of hair in anagen phase than the percentage of hair in telogen phase. Hairs in telogen phase are much more subject to loss with daily trauma such as combing and washing. In male pattern baldness, hair shafts become gradually miniaturized, meaning over time, the hair shaft slowly becomes smaller in diameter and length. Pigment (colour) production is also terminated with miniaturization causing the fine hair to become lighter in colour and affected area to appear thin. Over time, those hair follicles will be permanently terminated.

In short, male pattern hair loss is an inherited condition which can be passed down from either the father or mother. The rate and severity of hair loss is unpredictable, although the severity increases with age. If the condition is present it will be progressive and relentless. Hair loss is most likely to occur between late teen-age years and age 40-50 years.

If you are suffering from male pattern baldness, it can be downright embarrassing. But believe it or not, baldness is a scientific problem just like any other problem with your body, and this means you can handle a scientific problem like baldness with science itself. Like many other conditions in the human body, knowing what causes the problem will take you a long way towards treating it. Though some forms of baldness are irreversible, this does not mean you have to sit back and let nature take its course. Read here to find out what the causes of baldness are, and what you can start to do about it now to feel like you are more in control. Yes this is one more case where knowledge is power, here you will find the main cause of baldness, and how to deal with it effectively. Believe it or not, the primary cause of hair loss in men, resulting in male pattern baldness is hormonal. The hormone DHT, Dihydrotestosterone, is a primary factor in this condition. When too much DHT is produced, the natural re-growth cycle of your hair is adversely affected. As the hair follicles are replenished, the amount of hair that grows is now shorter and thinner.

This condition is known as Androgenetic Alopecia which is the medical term for male pattern baldness, and is the cause of 95% of the condition. Though this may sound like a little more science than you bargained for, the fact is this makes hair loss easy to work with. Whether you are just starting to notice some thinning, or consider yourself bald, the rates for hair loss will differ. And with hair loss, the sooner you notice changes and the sooner you seek treatment, the more effective your chosen treatment method will be. Rates of hair loss vary from one man to another, and this is why you may even see very young men that are going bald. In these cases the rate of hormone production is higher than in other males and their hair loss is occurring more rapidly. This Androgenetic Alopecia is also why a high percentage of men cannot avoid baldness without seeking treatment. Male pattern baldness is simply a result of excessive hormones, and in many cases, cannot be avoided.

This kind of hair loss is classed as natural hair loss and in most cases will be permanent without the correct treatment. Some cases of hair loss are temporary, and those temporary cases of hair loss are not caused by hormonal fluctuations with DHT. In the case of temporary hair loss, hair loss or baldness can be halted or reversed providing the underlying condition causing the hair loss is remedied. Examples of temporary hair loss include medically induced hair loss (such as chemotherapy), malnutrition, scalp infection, unhealthy hair treatment (perms and dyes), stress, or underlying disease. Whether you are dealing with temporary hair loss, or are suffering from male pattern baldness, hope is not lost.

Though some forms of baldness are permanent, the sooner you seek treatment for hair loss the sooner you can reverse the effects. Many people today are finding that standard prescriptions like Propecia are enough to make a difference in hair growth and work to reverse the signs of baldness or hair loss. Whether you choose a treatment like Propecia or generic propecia, you will find the ingredients work just the same and will get your confidence back in no time. You don’t have to be embarrassed about male pattern baldness, the sooner you start treatment, the more confident you will be. And who doesn’t want that?

The most common type of hair loss experienced by men is known as male pattern baldness. It follows a specific pattern – a receding hairline followed by total drop-off of hair from the scalp. This type of baldness is caused by androgenic hormones, so it is also called androgenic alopecia. According to statistics, about 35 million men in the US suffer from it. Because the problem is genetic, age is not a factor. It can occur to you even during your prime. But there are oral hair loss treatment that you can try to prevent hair loss and even encourage regrowth.

How is androgenic alopecia caused?

The exact causes of this type of hair loss are yet to be known. All that researchers have understood so far is that an androgenic hormone named dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is responsible behind androgenic alopecia. Let’s have a clear idea about the mechanism of hair growth and fall.

What is the process of hair growth and fall?

Hair grows by an inch every two months or so. This growth cycle spans between 2-6 years, after which the growth stops and hair falls off. The root from which a hair germinates is called follicle. Follicles shrink over time, which slows hair growth. Shrinking of follicles also causes hair to become thinner. The final outcome is a very small follicle with no hair in it.

Experts believe that in male pattern baldness, hair follicles become genetically sensitive to DHT. Their subsequent failure to respond to the hormone reduces longevity of hair and triggers hair loss.

What are the risk factors of male pattern baldness?

As mentioned before, male pattern baldness is triggered by genetic factors. So it is not possible to prevent it from occurring in the first place. If somebody in your family has the condition, chances of you developing the same are fairly high. Also, certain environmental factors may also be behind this type of baldness.

What are the treatments?

It is indicated that the condition can be prevented, and even reversed, if DHT levels can be reduced. The basic thing that is needed to encourage hair growth is to keep the follicles alive. So, if the follicles are desensitized to DHT, they will be able to produce new hair. Treatments of pattern baldness are based on this rationale.

Oral treatments are available on the market to stop hair from falling and also stimulate growth of fresh hairs. 5-alpha reductase inhibitors have been proven as effective solutions to the problem. By reducing DHT levels, these antiandrogenic drugs help prevent the hair follicles from getting exposed to the hormone. This makes sure the follicles remain alive and capable of producing new hair.

Propecia finasteride is for the treatment of male pattern hair loss

A tidbit for you…

Men of European descent are more inclined to developing male pattern hair loss than their American counterparts. It is estimated that around 50% males of European ancestry are affected by the condition at some point in their life. Asian men come next in the list of most affected, followed by Afro-Americans and indigenous Americans.

Generic Propecia or Generic Finasteride is a prescription drug that is widely and most commonly prescribed by doctors to men who suffer from male pattern baldness or hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). Androgenetic Alopecia is a genetic disorder caused by excessive conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the scalp skin in genetically susceptible men and women. Androgenetic Alopecia is largely a genetic condition and one of the prime and major causes of male pattern baldness or hair loss.

The beginning of Androgenic Alopecia in both males as well as females is early on in life and more than often may occur in teens. The miniaturized hair of various lengths and diameters are the trademark of this condition. The dihydrotestosterone causes shrinking of the local terminal hair follicles to miniaturized hair follicles. An increasing DHT level has a key role in hair loss. If left untreated, hair loss aggravates over time and at times it may result in complete baldness. Post diagnosis, your doctor is very likely to prescribe Propecia as an effective treatment for your hair loss. Generic Propecia (Generic Finasteride) may also be used for various other purposes other than hair loss.

Generic Propecia disrupts the conversion process of testosterone to its metabolite; dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which is the prime factor behind Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) and male pattern baldness. In male pattern hair loss, there is an excess of DHT in the part of the scalp where hair loss occurs. Generic Propecia or Generic Finasteride is a type 2 class of 5-alpha reductase inhibitor and it suppresses both, the serum and the tissue levels of dihydrotestosterone. Thus, by reducing the amounts of DHT in the scalp, Generic Propecia effectively works towards preventing further hair loss and encourages new hair growth. A decreasing DHT level also means the contraction of the enlarged prostate gland. To decrease the high levels of DHT in the scalp, Generic Propecia (Finasteride) inhibits the activity of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase that carries out the conversion process. The way in which Generic Propecia works in your body makes it a safe option for prolonged use. Generic Propecia has been studied on men for up to two years, and these men had no trouble taking it for this period.

Generic Propecia or Generic Finasteride is a tan coloured octagonal tablet. The recommended Propecia dosage is a 1mg pill which is required to be taken on a daily basis for the treatment of hair loss and 5 mg once a day for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia BPH. It is recommended that Propecia be taken at the same time every day. Generic Propecia can be consumed with a full glass of water. It can be taken with or without food. An extra or double dose will not bring immediate or better results. Hence, it is advisable to diligently follow your doctors advice or the instructions mentioned on the label of this medicine with regards to the dosage of Generic Propecia. A double dose should not be taken to incase you miss a dose. Instead, you may take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If you are shortly scheduled to take your next dose, then it is advisable to wait for some time and take the medicine and skip the missed dose. In the event of an overdose of Propecia, seek immediate medical attention. An overdose of Propecia is not expected to produce any life-threatening symptoms. Women who are or may become pregnant should not take Generic Propecia or Propecia Finasteride or should not be exposed to broken or crushed tablets, because it can cause changes in the genitals sex organs of male fetus.

Propecia is generally known to be a recommended and very safe medicine for the treatment of male pattern hair loss and very few people have reported its side effects. Even those people who do notice any side effects assert them to be mild. Notify your doctor in case you notice any lesser reported but serious symptoms like testicular pain, breast tenderness or enlargement. It is also advisable that you inform your doctor about any prescription or non-prescription medications, over-the-counter pills or any other medicines you may have been consuming prior to considering Propecia for your hair loss problem.

Favorable results may take a period of at least three months to get noticed if used continuously. You may have to take Propecia for three to six months for more better and visible results. Do not stop this medicine without first consulting your doctor. One can benefit using Propecia for only as long as you continue the treatment. Once you stop taking Propecia, the DHT levels will rise again in the scalp, and hair loss will return to pre-Propecia levels. This medicine also assists in reducing urinary problems in men with BPH.

Are you tired of covering up your ever-increasing bald spot? Would you like to have the potential to keep the hair you have and possibly re-grow some hair you’ve lost? With Propecia —the only ‘doctor only’ male hair loss treatment available—you can relax, knowing you’re in the right place to try giving male pattern hair loss the brush off. PROPECIA is the only once-a-day male hair loss treatment pill approved by the FDA for the treatment of men with male pattern hair loss. PROPECIA reduces DHT, a key cause of hair loss.

Causes of Male Pattern Hair Loss

Although both men and women can suffer significant hair loss, over 50% of men will suffer from male pattern baldness (MPB), also known as androgenetic alopecia, at some point in their lives. Androgenetic alopecia (AGA), also known as male pattern baldness, is one of the most common conditions affecting men. In the United States alone there are over 35 million men are affected by AGA.The reason behind hair loss is a genetically inherited sensitivity to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and 5-alpha-reductase. The enzyme 5-alpha-reductase converts testosterone, a male hormone, to DHT, the substance identified as the end-cause for hair loss.

Recession of the temporal area is typically the first place of hair loss; in some men the loss stops there and never progresses while in others it can continue into other areas of the scalp. Progression can vary being rapid in some men and slower in others.

PROPECIA : Hair Restoration Drug

While topical solutions such as Propecia® Finasteride brand have been used to treat hair loss, is the only FDA approved pill approved for the prevention of hair loss and possible hair re-growth. Propecia® was discovered when its generic equivalent being used for another purpose was found to have beneficial side effects. Finasteride is the generic name for the drug, and used for treatment of enlarged prostates, a syndrome medically called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is caused by an overproduction of DHT, which causes the prostate to grow. The approval of Propecia® by the FDA was easy to achieve, since it was merely marketing already approved Finasteride as a hair restoration drug, with a much smaller dosage than that required for BPH.

Propecia® is being prescribed by doctors to some patients as an oral treatment to internally block the production of DHT. Propecia is an androgen hormone inhibitor only approved for men, and has been clinically proven to grow hair on a significant percentage of men who suffer with Male Pattern Baldness (MPB) or more properly androgenetic alopecia.

The most important thing is to start taking male pattern hair loss treatment Propecia as soon as possible. The sooner you start , the sooner you may see result.

If you are suffering from male pattern baldness and wondering what you are going to do about it, talk to your doctor. Chances are that your doctor might recommend the use of Propecia.

What is Propecia?

This is a prescription oral treatment for male pattern baldness. It is an FDA approved option, and needs to be taken once a day for the treatment of male pattern baldness. The action of this medication helps inhibit the formation of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which experts believe is responsible for hair loss in men. It has been clinically proven to work on certain kinds of male pattern hair loss and the sooner you start taking this medication the better. Also, its important that you follow the recommended dosage of this medication and not leave it midway. Men who benefit from this medication can experience results in as little as 3 months.

What is finasteride?

Finasteride is the active ingredient in Propecia, which works by reducing the amount of DHT in your scalp. Its action inhibits the development of DHT in your scalp, which in turn helps stop hair loss and leads to hair regrowth.

Experts believe that DHT shrinks hair follicles and decreases the growth of hair follicles. They shrink until you are unable to find any visible hairs on your head. Both, DHT and genetics are considered the prime contributors of hair loss. When you take Propecia, finasteride, it blocks the development of DHT on your scalp. This medication arrests hair loss on the top and on the middle front portion of your head.

Treatment with Propecia

You need to keep taking this treatment option over the long term, to experience its benefits. If you stop taking this medication midway for some reason or the other, all your hard work will be wasted as there is a good chance that you will lose all the hair that you have gained as a result of this treatment. The medication must be consumed in the prescribed dosage only and taking more than the required dosage wont help you better the results with this drug. On the contrary, you might just exacerbate the side effects of this medication.

Side effects and precautions

If you are allergic to this medication or to any of its ingredients, its advisable not to use this medication. Propecia is not designed for use by women and children. It should also be avoided by pregnant or nursing mothers. Generally, the medication is well tolerated by most men who take it. But, some side effects that might affect you include, certain allergic reactions like swollen lips, rash, hives and itching. Other side effects may include ejaculatory problems, pain or tenderness in the testes, as well as an increase in penis size. If you experience certain bothersome or chronic side effects of this mediation, you must consult your doctor immediately.

This medication is easily available through various online clinics and sources. The fact that it offers proven efficacy means that it is very popular, so you must guard against buying from doubtful sources, especially sources that dont insist on a prescription from you.

In their teens, most men have a thick head of hair. By their early twenties, however, a good portion of men begin to develop concerns about the appearance of their hair. At what point should a man become concerned? To start, it is important to remember that the hair on your head is progressing through its own natural cycle just as much as your height and muscle development. Some babies are born with thick black hair that turns to blond. Most blonds naturally darken into brunettes by adulthood. The head of hair that you had in high school simply wasn?t the finished product. Even if you don?t experience issues with thinning hair, your hair pattern will change into what is called a ?mature hairline.? Your mature hairline will likely be higher at the sides than in the middle, and although this is often referred to as a ?receding? hairline, I think that ?mature? is a more appropriate term?helping us to see this change as a natural progression and allowing us to avoid jumping to the conclusion that utter baldness is imminent! (You don?t want to be ?immature? do you? Honestly? See? It?s all in the mind-set!)

However, for some men, there are other concerns beyond the maturing hairline. Noticing an increase in the natural shedding of hair is often a cause for alarm. If you notice this symptom and are becoming concerned, I would recommend seeing a hair loss specialist who can perform a baseline measurement of your hair thickness. This procedure?often called scalp mapping for miniaturization?will give you a quantitative measure of hair thinning. Don?t spend all your time staring in the mirror, guessing whether you see a difference. Your hair will have lost 60% of its diameter by the time a change is noticeable. This testing will prove whether or not your hair is truly miniaturizing. If it is, then you?ll have the option to begin prescription medication immediately. Studies show that hair loss medication is most effective at PREVENTING further miniaturization, rather than at re-growing hair. In simple terms, it is easier to keep hair thicker than to try and reverse substantial hair loss.
