Can stress trigger male pattern baldness?
Written by reader on December 6th, 2008I started to get male pattern baldness from about age 21. I am losing hair at the front of my head, but haven’t lost any from the back. Could this be a result of stress? I read somewhere that stress related hair loss is usually patchy. My hairloss appears to be typical male pattern baldness, but I was wondering if it was coming on early because of the bad stress I have been under lately.

I’ve never heard of that happen, so I’d have to say no. Male pattern baldness is genetic. You could have gotten it from your mother or father. Either way, in men, the gene for baldness is dominant, even if baldness runs only on one side of your family. So, see if your dad is bald, or your grandfather on your mom’s side is/was.

Male pattern baldness is hereditary but stress can cause alopecia (loss of hair)

I don’t think that stress can cause baldness.Baldness is usually associated with hereditary traits. However stress is bad for the health. Try yoga or light exercises such as walking, jogging or swimming to counter your stress.
